Academies at Englewood

The Academies @ Englewood is a public magnet school of choice for academically-gifted and motivated students. Founded in 2002 by Dr. John Grieco and others from Bergen County Academies in Hackensack, the Academies@Englewood has opened doors for hundreds of students from Englewood, Englewood Cliffs, and other Bergen Country towns to experience a first-class education while enjoying the extracurricular benefits that come from participating in a racially and culturally diverse academic community.

The Academies@Englewood consists of 5 focus areas or "majors": Biomedicine, Finance, Information Systems, Law, and Pre-Engineering. Admission into the Academies is competitive... Only about 1 out of every 3 students who applies is accepted. About half of all students come from the communities of Englewood and Englewood Cliffs; the other half come from nearly 60 towns in Bergen and Passaic Counties.

This year the Academies celebrates its 10th birthday. The school still has a long way to go, but it is making strides to fulfill the dream that Dr. Grieco envisioned that the Academies would go on to become one of the best high schools in New Jersey and a model for racial integration.
