Free Job Training in New Haven

Accelerating Connections to Employment (ACE), a partnership between Gateway Community College and Workforce Alliance. These programs are a fast track to careers with higher hourly wages and full-time work hours (30 hours/week or more). All eligible applicants will be included in a random-selection lottery for spots in each program.

Specialized training with industry-recognized certifications, basic math and reading help, job placement support and long-term career navigation.

To become eligible: Attend a free, walk-in orientation on Mondays or Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m.-12 Noon in Room N102, at Gateway Community College, 20 Church Street, New Haven OR Thursday, 1-3 PM at CTWorks, 560 Ella T. Grasso Blvd., New Haven.

Must be eligible to work in the U.S. Photo ID, Birth Certificate or Passport, Social Security Card, Green Card/Alien Registration Card, HS Diploma/GED or transcripts, W2 or recent pay stub required.

2015 Free Training Programs:

Community Health Worker Training – May 2015. A Community Health Worker, or CHW, is a front-line worker who serves as a liaison between health and social services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve quality and cultural competency of service delivery. The most common job duties include assistance with access to medical services, community advocacy, assistance with non-medical services, case management and providing social support to community members.

Small Engine Repair & Technology: June 2015: Classroom and hands-on training to learn to inspect, service and repair motorized power equipment. Jobs in this field may include working as a small engine mechanic or technician on generators, snow blowers, lawn mowers, personal watercraft, marine engines garden tractors or other small engines. Participants may earn their Equipment and Engine

IT Help Desk Trainee -- May 2015. Train to provide technical assistance to computer users and obtain entry-level employment in the Information Technology (IT) sector. Learn to answer questions or resolve computer problems in person, or via telephone or electronically. Some previous work-related experience or knowledge will be required. Customer Service Communication training included. Includes 10 weeks of basic training through A+CompTIA certification, team building and problem solving modules, plus one week of customer service communications training.

Basic Automotive Service Technician, June 2015. Learn the entry level skills to being a career in the automotive industry including how to perform oil and other fluid checks and changes, tire rotations, and other basic maintenance functions with a customer service focus. Get hands-on training in Gateway Community College’s automotive labs at the North Haven Campus during this four-week program. Students receive uniforms, work shoes and safety glasses.

Patient Care Technician. April 2015. EKG & Phlebotomy certifications for current CNAs, Those with all three then test for the PCT National Healthcareer Association credential.
