More about Adam Bazaldua for Dallas

Adam Bazaldua was born and raised just 15 minutes south of Dallas in DeSoto. After attending college and working in Denton and Austin, he began his professional culinary career in Harlem (New York). Five years later Adam and his wife moved home to Dallas to start a family. After years as a professional chef, Adam made a career change and followed his passion to be a positive influence in the lives of young people as a culinary arts instructor in the Dallas Independent School District. After 4 years of working in public education and living in District 7, Adam decided to expand his passion for making a difference beyond his classroom and into his neighborhood.

Adam is a dedicated husband, father, teacher and friend. Adam is NOT a career politician, and that is a start to great change in our area. As a resident of District 7, Adam knows the challenges firsthand. He is passionate about giving a voice to the residents of the District and to advocate for more economic growth and additional beautification efforts -- things that will improve the lives of everyone in the District. In recent years we have heard a lot of talk about improvements such as developing the Hatcher Housing Project, solving our growing homeless population and attracting local businesses, but nothing happens. On issues like privatizing Fair Park, our voices have not been heard. Has our District been forgotten about by our current elected officials?

Bazaldua wants work on these District 7 Issues:
-Making residents safer: More police presence in many areas throughout our district, including the towered camera/command stations at major intersections and shopping centers. Adam would like to initiate community oriented policing (COP strategy) throughout District 7 to combat increasing gunfire and the rise in petty theft in our area. Adam would like to partner with Neighborhood and Homeowner Associations to begin formalized Neighborhood Crime Watch committees with Neighborhood Watch signs in the participating neighborhoods.
-Make our District more beautiful: Pilot a District 7 "Adopt a Street" project to clean up and maintain our streets. Adam will foster relationships within the neighborhood, and with the city and the public schools in the district, along with small businesses and non-profit organizations such as Keep Dallas Beautiful. Adam will encourage groups to “adopt a street” and take responsibility for keeping it clean. The project that gives some ownership back to the people, and allows them to be involved on the front line of our initiative. In addition, clean and well-maintained streets discourage crime.
-Bring businesses to the District: Work with business development groups, trade organizations and the City of Dallas to create incentives for business owners to open businesses within the district, especially family-friendly establishments. We have seen the transformation of The Bishop Arts District, the Design District, Downtown Dallas and Lower Greenville. Adam would like to see to it that the next city-supported area for economic growth be the Fair Park/Samuel Grand areas.
- Find creative solutions for the abandoned homes/businesses: Bolster Dallas’ push to take care of abandoned or derelict properties by keeping District 7 projects at the forefront. Adam supports working with organizations such as Habitat for Humanities to bring affordable housing developments to the District.
-Work to find a solution for the homeless: Find a humane and permanent solution to the issues of chronic homelessness in District 7, instead of pushing them over to the next exit as we have seen done so many times over the past few years. Adam plans on working with the city council and local non-profit organizations to build permanent housing as has been done in other cities. District 7 currently borders a district with several shelter options for the homeless population. His plan will keep the homeowners’ best interests in mind, while taking care of our less fortunate neighbors.

I will work tirelessly with the District’s best interest always first. Together, we can make Southeast Dallas beautiful again.
