More about Adams~McFarlane Funeral & Cremation Services

Building a tradition of service.

Jeremy McFarlane was born in Farmington, the son of Jeffrey T. and Anita L. (Partridge) McFarlane. He was raised in Industry and graduated from Mt. Blue High School in 1991. Jeremy went on to attend the University of Southern Maine where he met his wife Laura Despard McFarlane, daughter of Daniel R. and Lynda J. (Paquette) Despard. Laura graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1991. Once Laura received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from USM they decided to return to the Farmington area.

In 1998 Jeremy began his apprenticeship at Adams Funeral Home which was under the management of Dan and Scott Adams and the ownership of ECI Services of Maine before it was sold to SCI, a corporation in Texas. After finishing his apprenticeship Jeremy went on to work at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home in Skowhegan and at The Fortin Group Funeral Homes in Lewiston/Auburn where he gained priceless experience working in the funeral industry. During this time he attended mortuary science school receiving his degree from FINE Mortuary College and subsequently received his funeral directors license.

On January 1, 2002 Jeremy was asked by SCI to return to Adams Funeral Home as manager due to the former managers unexpectedly resigning. Since Jeremy was familiar with the facility and the area they felt he was the best person for the job. He and his wife were thrilled to return to the area with their two children. Jeremy worked as manager at Adams Funeral Home from Jan. 1, 2002 until August 21, 2006 at which time he and his wife purchased the funeral home from the corporation in Texas making Adams Funeral Home a locally owned and family operated business for the first time since 1996.

Jeremy and Laura are very proud to have returned the funeral home to its former status as a family run business. Jeremy's sisters Julie McFarlane and Kelly LaCasse also work at the funeral home from time to time. Kelly says "it is heartwarming to see what a caring individual my brother has grown to be." Jeremy and Laura have put the families they serve first which can be seen in the extensive updates and renovations they have made to the building and grounds. "We have done everything from redesigning the handicap ramps to make them easier to use to redoing the interior in an effort to make their time here a little more comfortable" Laura said. Jeremy says that is the beauty of the business being family owned "we decide where the money goes instead of it going to pay upper management or make improvements at other locations."

Since Jeremy, Laura, and their two children live upstairs from the business they are better able to serve their families because their schedule can be much more flexible. The funeral business isn't a 9 to 5 business, it is a 24/7, 365 day a year business. Laura says "the death of a loved one can be very difficult. It is our goal to serve each family as though they were a part of our own. We are here to serve our neighbors and their families and we are honored to be given that opportunity."
