Adzima Funeral Home

Our funeral home was established in 1914 by the late Joseph Adzima on the corner of Maple and Helen Streets in the east side of Bridgeport. Joseph’s son Alexander began to work with him in the business in 1929. They developed a reputation of great respect and became well known for their courteous service and honesty. In 1936, the funeral home was moved to 591 Arctic Street to a larger facility still located on the east side. Joseph died in 1946 leaving his son Alexander along with his wife Helen to carry on the family traditions. Alexander’s son Richard joined the funeral home in 1957, making him the third generation in the family business. Together they purchased the historical Isaac Lewis homestead located at 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford in 1976. The building, which is a landmark in the community, sits on the picturesque Paradise Green. After three years of renovations to update the circa 1850 building, Richard and his father moved their business and held the first funeral in the new funeral home on February 19, 1979. Alexander passed away on May 19, 1984, leaving his legacy to be carried out by his son and his wife Eleanor. Richard’s sons became the fourth generation of Adzimas to enter the family business; Matthew in 1986 and Peter in 1988. Today the third and fourth generations, Richard, Matthew and Peter walk in the footsteps of their ancestors carrying on the tradition of serving the community with respect, dignity and dedication.
