The Reverend Brandon Karl Allen, Senior Pastor
The Agape Church of Divine Love was organized on September 14, 1969 in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Stenhouse. The persons forming this independent congregation had previously been members of Delaine-Waring African Methodist Episcopal Church of Buffalo, New York. Founding members were: the late Reverend Melvin Crawford, Sis. Eldrea Goldsmith, Pedro A. Castro, Sr., Clara Mae Castro, Christine Castro, Angelina Castro, Diodi Castro, Charles E. Kelley, Emma Louise Kelley, Rhonda Kelley, Bonita Kelley, Kerwin Kelley, April Kelley, Deborah Casper, Patricia Kelley, Margurite Mitchell, Thelma Phelps, Thelma Stenhouse, Barbara Patton, James Patton, Coralyn Patton, Kelley Patton, Betty Walker, Toni Walker, Bessie Scott, Ickey Mae Williamson, Alex Williamson, Lovell Willliamson, Edna Shaw, Michael Shaw, Lamont Shaw, Richard Shaw, Bruce Shaw, and Linda Shaw.
During the early months of the church's existence, services were held in the homes of various members, the Michigan YMCA, and the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. The late Reverend Melvin G. Crawford served as the Interim Pastor.
On February 12, 2011, Bishop Richard Franklin Norris, the presiding bishop of the 1st Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church appointed Pastor Brandon K. Allen to lead the church to a new level of praise and worship. Since Pastor Allen's arrival, the church has grown collectively and spiritually.
