An important mission of the Alabama Veterans Memorial is to educate young people about war and peace and civic responsibility. Today's high school students were not born when the last US troops left Vietnam, and, if recent test results are valid, today's college students have almost no knowledge of WWI and WWII and even less of the Korean Conflict.
We should be thankful for our children's lack of experience with war, but if we aren't careful, the blessing of peace can lead to ignorance of the past and a dangerous complacency about the future.
The Alabama Veterans Memorial welcomes school groups of all ages. To arrange a student outing and guided tour of the Memorial, contact us today.
