Alaqua Animal Refuge

Alaqua Animal Refuge is the premier, no-kill animal shelter and sanctuary located in Freeport, Florida, just minutes from the beautiful emerald coast beaches in Northwest Florida. Located down a winding gravel road on a picturesque 10-acre farm, Alaqua provides refuge and sanctuary to once homeless, lost, and abused animals that are now able to run and play in sun-soaked pastures; swim in cool, clean pools; relax on breezy screened porches; and graze in lush, green fields.

A member of the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, Alaqua believes that every abused, neglected and homeless animal deserves a second chance.

This private, non-profit animal sanctuary is committed to serving the Emerald Coast as: the premier no-kill refuge, providing protection, shelter and care to animals in need; a full-service animal adoption center; and a peaceful, proactive animal welfare advocate through educational outreach and community programs. Since its inception in 2007 Alaqua has grown to become a recognized leader in animal welfare and animal cruelty prevention.

Alaqua is open year-round for tours of our refuge and sanctuary, except on major holidays. At any given time, we have over 350 animals on our property, including dogs, cats, horses, birds, donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs, cows, bunnies, ducks and even emus! Individuals, families, and groups are all welcome to visit and learn what makes Alaqua such a special place—for animals and people. There is always plenty to see at Alaqua!
