More about AlkebuLan Cultural Center Pasadena

Welcome, and thank you for visiting the Alkebu-Lan Cultural Center in Pasadena's page! We encourage you to drop by the center to get the full experience. This is NOT a COMMUNITY CENTER which most folks just use to dump their kids or parents in while they go off for the day... this is a CULTURAL CENTER which means you enter here and leave stronger and better than when you came in, by way of being educated and empowered.

Our Mission: To provide knowledge and awareness of African and African-American heritage through culturally informed educational activities which nurture individual abilities and build confidence in academic, social and artistic achievement

The Alkebu-Lan Cultural Center in Pasadena is a place for our people to come to better ourselves and our community. We have lots of programs in place including educational events, a food drive program, yoga classes, film nights, African dance and drum circle as well as Djembe classes, and more. We've also hosted private galas/parties and other private functions; photo, video, and television shoots; live performances; nutritional and dietary speeches and workshops, and there's plenty more to come as people continue to discover and make use of the center. We look forward to helping you with your events!

If you are interested in having a function, or want to find out more information about the center or to participate in one of our classes or programs, contact Ms. Dianne Lewis (Ms. Dee) who is the director, at (626) 794-9570 or (626) 807-4006.

Alkebu Lan translates into a variety of things, one of which is "A Temple and/or Place of Learning". It was also the original name of the continent of Africa. Here in America we understand how important land is, and the need for a place for you and your family to have an opportunity to grow and explore in a safe haven. This is a place where our people can be free, but they must respect and maintain the balance of that freedom if we are to move forward as one.

One of our missions is to educate our people to elevate our people. Once you know what accomplishments and power is in your history, then you have a whole new outlook as far as your understanding of yourself, your world, and the world around you, and what you are capable of.
