We build new houses in partnership with people in need. Houses are then sold to the partner families with a no-profit, no-interest mortgage. Homeowners are selected based on their need for housing, ability to repay the mortgage, and willingness to partner with Habitat by investing "sweat equity" hours into the construction of their home and others' homes. Because we offer no-profit, no-interest mortgages and because the houses are built mainly through volunteer labor, the mortgage payments are affordable for low-income families. We do not *give* homes away. The mortgage payments from partner families go into a "Fund for Humanity," which provides the funding to build more houses.
