More about Alpha Xi Delta: Iota Mu

Alpha Xi Delta was founded on April 17, 1893 at Lombard College in Galesburg, Illinois by 10 women: Cora Bollinger Block, Alice Bartlett Bruner, Almira Lowry Cheney, Frances Elisabeth Cheney, Bertha Cook Evans, Eliza Drake Curtis Everton, Julia Maude Foster, Lucy W. Gilmer, Harriet Luella McCollum, and Lewie Strong Taylor. Alpha Xi Delta is one of the oldest women's fraternities. We have over 150,000 initiated members with college chapters and alumnae associations across the country. As a National Chapter, Alpha Xi Delta is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), which governs all women's fraternities and sororities. Our ideals are sisterhood, leadership, knowledge, and service. Alpha Xi Delta partnered with Autism Speaks in April 2009, making it our National Philanthropy. Alpha Xi Delta chapters across the country participate in events to raise money and awareness for Autism Speaks.

The Iota Mu Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta began as a Sorority Interest Group (SIG). The women who were a part of SIG decided they wanted to bring a second National sorority to Lycoming's campus and began researching what different National sororities stood for. They found what they were looking for in Alpha Xi Delta. After getting approval from Lycoming College and Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity, the SIG became an Alpha Xi Delta Colony in spring 2004. On April 17, 2005, National installed the Colony as the Iota Mu Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta.
