More about Alpine Community Garden

The fence is up and the beds are in! The committee of the Alpine Community Garden is putting in the hours to prepare for the Garden’s grand opening on September 22nd. Volunteers are needed! We are working every Sunday evening starting at 7 p.m. We have tools and water, you just need to bring your gloves. Please join us.

The mission statement of the Community Garden is to provide residents an affordable place to grow healthy, organic food in an environment that fosters sharing, learning, community and good will.

Those interested in having a plot need to sign up fast before all the plots are gone. Garden plots are available for $36 year round, and $20 for a short 6-month season. Some half-plots may be available for $18 year round and $10 for the 6-month season. SNAP-eligible participants can apply for full scholarships. Garden applications with agreement rules are available at the West Texas Food Bank on Hwy. 90.

Over 1,400 “food insecure” people live in Alpine who literally do not know where their next meal is coming from during certain times of the year. A community garden can provide a location for residents to grow fresh produce, both for themselves and for distribution to those in need through the Food Bank. The Alpine Community Garden will provide much more than food. There will be prime opportunities for exercise and learning.
