ASFC was founded by Douglas Hime in January of 1965.The mission was clear to Douglas to Provide the citizens of Fulton County with a professional ambulance service. On April 8,1965 ASFC became incorporated as a non-profit organization and were registered as a charity with the New York State Department of Public Welfare. The Gloversville Common Council, Fulton County Medical Society, the Board of Directors of Nathan Littauer Hospital, the Chamber of Commerce, the Junior Chamber of Commerce and many other civic groups all Endorsed ASFC.

The service operated with two ambulances, one ambulance being fully equipped and the other being a Coravan Wagon Equipped for medical use as a transfer patient vehicle. The service was in operation twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. They were able to operate with seven employees that included the manager, a clerical dispatcher, four full time employees for day and night shifts a relief operator. The service ran about 600 calls a year for the first two years and has shown a steady increase in call volume since.

Temporary headquarters were set up on First avenue in the City of Gloversville. the Board Of Directors were compromised of eight community members. They were: Sterling Holly, President ; David V Clough, Vice President; Jeremiah Wood, Secretary; Robert Dorfman,Treasurer; Drew Thomas, Officer; Dudley Ferguson, Officer; William Evans, Officer; and Joseph Tobin, Officer.

New York Department Of Health authorized ASFC to operate throughout Fulton County, But service was not limited to any geographical area.

On December 18,1965, Howard Hime ,the brother of Douglas Hime joined the service. He worked for twenty years in the community as an EMT and Later a Medic. In January of 1985 the Ambulance Service Of Fulton County Board Of Directors named him the manager. He Has served as trustee and was a founding member of the of the Fulton County Emergency Medical Services Council in April 1987. He also served on the ARREMS Council and a Member of the REMAC Council. Howard taught many CPR and EMT classes throughout the years.

Mr. Hime retired in December of 2013
