THE DOCTOR
In the beginning:

It started at a young age, I was fascinated by automobiles. Having a push car which was a little green jeep that my grandfather bought me was my best friend. From that point on, I was hooked on the forward motion! At the age of 10, I acquired a complete inventory of mini bike parts. At that point, I had only very limited mechanical experience. I just started mating parts together as I thought they should be and the fucking thing ran but not for long. That day I learned about trial and error: the rod bolts let loose and the rod came through the cases.

Next came a Honda 70 trail bike that dad got second hand. He didn’t know any better as the thing was a rat assed piece of JUNK! I had to mess with it and screwed it up a little more, till I started learning. At this point, I had all the kids in my neighborhood asking me to fix their bikes and I wound up messing up most of their bike's..... LOL and I actually did fix some stuff but remember, this was my learning curve.

What a year bicentennial was!! Dad broke down and bought a Kawasaki KE 175. Boy, was I happy. I had the biggest bike out of all the guys I rode with. Being the mechanical genius I was at the time, I MESSED that up. I was chased by the police and started my short life of crime running from the cops, as I was caught more than I got away, LOL.

That summer I got a job at my dad’s friends place - a junk yard, and boy did my learning curve grow. I had to pass Fun Wheels Honda every day and drooled over the bikes in the show room. At that point, I knew I wanted to be a motorcycle mechanic!!

Just as I was getting tired of the weather at the junkyard, I saw a help wanted sign in Fun Wheels and took the job learning to assemble the new bikes and prepping them. My learning curve went into over drive and I was hungry for knowledge. My brain was like a sponge; I wanted to soak it all up.

I left Fun Wheels and starting working at Cycle Salvage. That did not last as it was a low life job and the pay sucked. Suzuki performance in Northport was my next stop then back to Fun Wheels. Left Fun Wheels for East Coast Super Bikes and found out that Harleys were all I wanted to work on. That job left a good taste for the mighty big twins. I already had a 59 Sportster, 55 Pan Head, and just got my first electric start Shovel Head. I knew that I needed to expand my horizons, but still wanted more knowledge. I wanted to build great bikes, so I moved to California and got a job at Carl’s Speed Shop in Santa Fe Springs, California. Carl’s Speed Shop is now located in Daytona on East Beach Street. Drop in and tell them I sent you!

Left Carl’s and went to do my own thing.

Went mobile, hanging in the biker hangouts. I went to all the hip places in Hollywood and started a great mobile business. My following became too great and I needed to open a shop. I had met many people in the movie industry as well as the “Rock N Roll” crowds, Gary Busey, Judd Nelson, Shannon Dougherty, Axle Rose, Ashley Hamilton, Matt LeBlanc, Harry Hamlin and Dwight Yokem just to name a few. I was a business partner with the guitar legend Steven Via, as well as building a bike for Mike Madsen. I also had a star named Norman Reedus work for me. All this in addition to maintaining and building custom bikes for a lot of the higher up director type folks; most names people wouldn't recognize.

I opened my shop and had a few of my cars and bikes in magazines like Hustler, OUI and Hot Rod Bikes. In 1991, I started Road Racing and won my first championship that year in two classes, 500 & 600 Singles.

Applying the preparation I learned at the track to the bikes I built for the street, I developed a level of integrity that I hold dear to this date. If the shit does not fly on the track, it will not fly on the street. Meaning: the rider’s safety comes first! You cannot afford to have a failure when going 150 miles per hour; that just doesn't fly!

I started racing everything on two wheels...... I raced the desert, motocross and drag racing. As time went on with no sponsors, I knew I had to race what I knew and that was Harleys. I got a Sportster and went on the A.M.A national circuit. I went to a Hollywood Hills party. At that party I met a guy named Rick James. You know him - "Super Freak” - and acquired a sponsor, a clothing line called Weavers, and a great man named Mark Ciuwinski owned it. He paid me to live out a dream and I went on to race at Daytona in 1993.

DR CARL'S HOG HOSPITAL was located on Venice Blvd, 5050 Los Angeles CA to be exact, and I ran the shop there until late 1997 when I moved to South Park Colorado (Yes there is such a place) to live the easy life in the mountains. However, the easy life had a big price - poverty. It rained every day so I thought I would make it back to New York, and open a shop on Long Island.

After returning to New York, I started the NEW YORK MOTOR COMPANY. I sorted out knowledge in forms of proper machine shop skills as well as welding and fabrication. In 2006, I refinanced my home and purchased a Dyno Jet 250 Motorcycle Dyno. I employed a Dyno Tuner named Doug Lofgren to teach me the real/proper way to use my Dyno, and since, have Mastered the art of fine tuning.

Tired of the New York Rat Race and the fact that Dirt Biking is illegal in New York, I decided to move down south to spend the rest of my days. Randleman is where I landed and I’m here to stay, having found a choice location around the corner from the Great #43 Richard Petty!
