The American Association For Wartime Veterans (AAWV) was established in 2002 as a community out reach program designed to help educate veterans, spouses of veterans and their families learn about the VA administered Aid and Attendance benefit.
AAWV is a Michigan based organization that works in harmony with senior independent living, assisted living and private pay nursing home communities to educate veterans and families on the benefit, its qualifications, what is needed to apply and how to properly submit an approvable application.
AAWV holds educational seminars, free of charge, in communities throughout 21 states with plans for expansion to more than 35 states by years end 2010. Currently over 1000 communities have signed up as "Veteran First Communities" which indicates to veterans and their families that the community appreciates their wartime service enough to work directly with AAWV in educating their resident population. For residents or potential residents of those communities AAWV provides the free service of meeting one-on-one with families prior to the application process
