Tourism Education
Organizes the annual American Indian Tourism Conference
Provides training and technical assistance to tribal, national, regional and state tourism meetings
Develops interpretive and hospitality curriculum in partnership with the National Park Service and tribal colleges and universities
International and Domestic Marketing
Annually hosts the American Indian Pavilion at ITB International Travel Trade Show in Berlin, Germany
Annually participates in the U.S. Travel Association’s IPW
Annually collaborates with Brand USA to provide editorial content representing Indian Country in the inspiration guide Discover America, published in nine languages and distributed worldwide
Partnerships with Federal Agencies, Academia and Nonprofit Organizations
Implements an ongoing Cooperative Agreement with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Division of Transportation to provide technical assistance and training in recreational travel and tourism
Participates in the National Park Service Civil War Sesquicentennial and National Park Service Centennial planning
Partners with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, National Park Service, National Geographic Society, Bureau of Indian Affairs and others to share historical information on tribes that will have lasting value to all Americans
Implements a Memorandum of Understanding with all Bureaus of the U.S. Department of the Interior to enhance tribal tourism
Works with The George Washington University’s International Institute of Tourism Studies, Southeast Tourism Society, and Brand USA
Implements a Memorandum of Understanding with Tribal GIS Support Center and membership on National Geographic Society’s Geotourism Stewardship Council
Research and Data
Supports the U.S. Department of Commerce Office of Travel and Tourism Industries
Maps tourism resources and develops GIS data layers in cooperation with Tribal GIS Support Center and the Bureau of Indian Affairs
Private Sector Partnerships
Developing new partnerships with Tauck Tours, a world-leader in guided travel, and Kilpatrick, Townsend & Stockton LLP, one of the nation’s top law firms
Formalizing partnerships with National Tour Association, Western States Tourism Policy Council
