american legion post 81 was build in 1952, and put in service in 1953. moody and webb was the builder.
first commander was robert locke, mr locke was the town mayor at this time.
post history was done by post adjutant richard allen, many pictures were taken before and after each work day. new roof installed. all inside framing has been removed and new framing installed. all repairs have been done by donations from locals. more donations are needed to complete this land mark.
from all the members of this post we thank each and all who have made donations.
in years gone by this building has been used for many things, by many people, school, parties, dances, church. the national guard meet here while the aromy was being builded.
i was told many times their was no american legion in silas, alabama, yes post 48 wan in silas, have not found the location yet.
a post was to be installed in gilbertown, but was not, gave no reason.

plans are in the works to build a military park out front of post. what we need from all familys of all wars and none wars. names of all veterans, what war, names will be placed on stones out front.
