Legion Post 178 is organized under the Washington State Department of the American Legion, falling in WA's District 2. There are approximately 150 members on our post roster annually, some renewing each year and some paid up for life. From that larger group is a core group of members and a small elected executive board which attend regular monthly meetings and participates in Post activities.
We host community and patriotic holiday events throughout the year, including Memorial Day (May), and Veterans Day (November), and usually a summer flag retirement event, wherein the Post members ceremoniously and respectfully burn old, tattered, and unserviceable US or state flags.
Post 178 serves as a community support service, referring veterans in need for assistance with healthcare benefits, emergency financial support, and camaraderie between wartime veterans. Members can rent out our Post hall for a small fee, and the general public can rent our Post hall for private events (pending availability) for a rental fee and damage deposit. Modest income from the public rentals is part of how Post 178 sustains itself and the hall.
