Anders Hardware

In late January 1909, J.H. Anders opened J.H. Anders Mercantile Co. and ran the first Grand Opening announcement Feb. 8, 1909, in the West Alabama Breeze. Today our doors are still open. The name has changed - now the store is Anders Hardware - but little else is different. The store still sits in the same location on Main Avenue in Historic Downtown Northport, AL. Some of the original details of the store still remain. A bit of the original shelving runs along the South wall of the store. Gas cans hang from the ceiling on the same hooks that held oil cans when the store first opened. At the heart of the store sits three 100-year old carousel style nail bins, out of which countless numbers of individual nails are sold each day. We sell over 100,000 different items including many "hard to find" items. We carry hundreds of varieties of garden seeds that can be purchased in small or large quantities. We also offer many classic toys including Daisy BB guns and Radio Flyer. In addition we also offer classic housewares and cast iron cookware and meat grinders. In 2002, the Anders opened a second location on 15th Street in Tuscaloosa.
