More about Apalachicola River Ramble Trail & Boardwalk

Apalachicola's River Ramble Trail and boardwalk is an 1/2 mile round-trip, self-interpretive trailwalk, along an historically and archaeologically important site within walking and biking distance of downtown Apalach. The trail literally spans features from 1000 years of Apalachicola history from a remnant railroad bed from Apalachicola's lumber baron heydays to a vista that overlooks a pre-Columbian mound complex site. Its path begins by tracing a 100+ year old rail bed built for the timbering industry, before rambling off through a river floodplain habitat that includes marsh, mesic cabbage palm forest, scrub, and historical wild iris beds, traversing all of this via an elevated boardwalk trail that is ADA accessible. In the final 500 feet, the boardwalk rises out of the forest, and ascends, temple-like, onto a large platform with a breathtaking, miles-wide view across a vast expanse of estuarine marsh which embraces, Scipio Creek, Turtle Harbor, and the Apalachicola River. The overlook contains benches for rest and reflection, and includes a telescope for viewing wildlife such as osprey and bald eagle nests, as well as waterway traffic in the distance. NO ADMISSION FEE. OPEN DAYLIGHT HOURS ONLY, 7 DAYS/WEEK. FRIENDLY PETS (Please pickup after them) WITH THEIR CONSIDERATE OWNERS ARE WELCOME.
