More about Apartment Association of Southern Colorado

Our History:

The Apartment Association of Southern Colorado, AASC, began in 1970 as the Pikes Peak Apartment Association, to serve as the industry voice of multi-family housing. Two of its early Presidents, Jim Curry and Don Willman along with Byron Church, were the organizers of the Chapter, which originally numbered about 40 active members. Through the years of burgeoning activity in apartments up to 1973, the Association grew steadily. In that year, Yvonne Browning, its first full-time Executive Director, was employed. Monthly meetings were held in such diverse locations as the Satellite Hotel and the Red Carpet Lounge on North Circle, an adjunct of a bowling establishment. With 1973’s infamous gas tap moratorium and its severe blow to the industry, individuals such as Mickey Stanley, Fred Veitch, Rich Walker and others, stepped forward to lead and to rebuild; and far from dying, the industry slowly recovered and prospered. Out-of-state and out-of-country investors came to Colorado Springs and the emphasis shifted to sophisticated methods of operation and increased professionalism. Product/Service members, on board since the beginning, increased in numbers and in types of services offered. The annual trade show and seminar grew in size, scope and attendance with each passing year.

Today, AASC is still growing with a membership exceeding 30,000 rental units and 540 members. In addition to the Executive Director, a Membership Services Director, and an Education Director constitute the paid, professional staff. It is engaged in active and viable programs aimed at enhancing the professionalism of its members, increasing the political effectiveness of the rental housing industry and continuing, as its charter requires, β€œto be the voice of multi-family housing in the Pikes Peak Region.” As of January 2008 the Apartment Association acquired the charter for Pueblo and the surrounding communities and as a result changed its name from Apartment Association of Colorado Springs to the Apartment Association of Southern Colorado
