Argos Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America

The Izaak Walton League of America is a conservation organization established in 1922 with Williamson Dilg as the founder and leader of the organization. The organization was named after Izaak Walton due to his philosophy of outdoor living, and his principles of true sportsmanship. The nationwide group's mission is to conserve, maintain, protect and restore the soil, forest, water and air. The League strives to educate the public and youth of the importance of conservation.

The local chapter was formed just years after the original establishment in1926. The first few acres of property were purchased in 1929 with fishing ponds and structures erected to develop a fishing hatchery. Additional acres were purchased 1934 making the property acreage totaling 17. Signing an agreement with the United States Bureau of Fisheries, under the New Deal Act, the members were able to build a clubhouse which is now utilized by members and the surrounding communities.
