Arizona Nordic Village
Tucked into the San Francisco Peaks in the Coconino National Forest about 15 miles from downtown Flagstaff, this Nordic oasis has most of the common attributes one would associate with a good cross country ski center anywhere else in the country. Arizona Nordic Village has a full 40km of non-redundant trails, more if you count portions of trails that you have to repeat to reach more distant loops. The trails wind through some of the largest Ponderosa pine stands in the state with the ever-present aspen, the other dominant species. Trails are named for terrain features found throughout the region, most of which are named after significant individuals and historic figures.
Winter Happenings:
Throughout the months of December through March (weather permitting) the Nordic Village keeps their trails groomed for cross country skiing. In addition to cross country ski rentals they offer snowshoe rentals and fat tire snow bike rentals. Their yurts and cabins, placed elegantly amongst the landscape, are also available for a unique style of camping. Rates at offgridgetaways.com
Summer Happenings:
During the romantic months of monsoon Arizona summer the Nordic Village offers rentals of their cabins and yurts dispersed amongst the property. They also rent out their property for special events and weddings. Trails are open 24/7 May 5th, 2017 - October 15th, 2017.
