Arizona Valley of the Sun YMCA Youth & Government

The Youth & Government Program offers high school students the opportunity to experience and participate in the state governmental process. They learn how Arizona government works from an “insiders point of view” through involvement in civic events and the annual Model Legislature Conference held every fall at our State Capitol in Phoenix.

Working a minimum of 70 hours throughout the year, students practice
parliamentary procedure, select topics of interest to be discussed at the state level, as well as how to research, write, present, and defend a bill. This “hands-on” program not only teaches students about government, but it also helps develop life skills such as leadership, self-confidence, respect for others, and the importance of community service.
