HISTORY OF THE CAMP
In December 1987, after 23 years of renting camps, the Western Diocese became the proud owner of the Alta Sierra Camp (formerly Bob Mathias Camp), nestled in the Sequoia National Forest of the San Joaquin Valley.
Renamed and dedicated in 2013, Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian Camp is a jewel of the Diocese. Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian Camp is home to Hye Camp, ACYO Retreats, miscellaneous Armenian organization’s camps and retreats and other Christian and cultural camps.
At an elevation of 4,200 feet, Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian Camp is a 160-acre developed camp site located in Dunlap, California about 35 miles east of Fresno. It is within five miles of the entrance to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
