More about Artmakers' Place

VISION:
The vision for ArtMakers' Place was created and developed by a group of individuals who uniformly believe in the transformative power of art. ArtMakers' Place provides opportunities for self-discovery, self-appreciation, common ground to connect with others, and tools for greater self-determination. Art and music activities, as well as art and music therapies, encompass expressive, decorative, practical, literary, performance, and fine arts. Guest artists and field trips enrich the milieu.
ArtMakers' Place can be a reflection of our potential and a bridge to who we can become. Art makers will thrive through the creative process by showing their work, performing, volunteering, and being a part of the vital arts community.

Even though Wyandot Center has offered art groups to consumers for several years, our Registered Art Therapist/Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist and our Certified Peer Support Specialist felt that art therapy deserved its own fine facility. Through this facility, they hoped that art could be used as a tool for healing and also as a way to create awareness, educate the community, and decrease the stigma of mental illness.

Facilities at ArtMakers' Place:
We offer a large, open, fine art studio space for classes and art therapy groups, two rooms for individual art therapy, clean white walls for artwork exhibition, a sewing & fabric art room, and a wide selection of books, magazine clippings and inspiration board for visual research.

VALUES we believe:
All people have the right and ability to create new options and innovative solutions to life's traumas and challenges.

The intentional acts of creating art empower people.

Art making expresses what words cannot.

Art making provides a safe, affirming context, void of judgment.

All people need unconditional acceptance, and they can find that by participating in the creative process.

Art making is a mindful experience that transcends pain and despair and promotes healing.

Art making is a tool to experience recovery from traumas or challenges and that recovery is a process and a way of life.

People can heal in their recovery according to their needs and choices.

Healing through the art experience extends to the deepest parts of the mind and heart.

Art making helps people defeat habit and break through barriers to connect with hope.

Art making helps people experience joy and connection to the miracles and mysteries of life.
