More about As Nature Intended Midwifery ~ Emily Germash, LM, CPM

Some people would say that my path leading to midwifery training was inevitable. I have been closely involved with the “midwifery world” since I was 13 years old when my mother decided she was finally able to train and become a midwife. I spent a lot of time at the birth center where she trained and worked including going to births - sometimes as a guest and sometimes as needed help. To me, pregnancy and birth were always just amazing times in a family’s life; not cause for fear and crisis mode.

I was determined to use a midwife (my Mom) when I had my two children. Those two single experiences were the best of my life. I have witnessed first hand the difference between the medical world’s idea of labor and birth and the peaceful, natural way a midwife-led labor and birth occur. I knew that I wanted the midwifery model for me and my babies. All of my background of witnessing and being involved in the maternity year of a woman’s life has left me on fire for the cause of protecting, supporting and guiding women on the path to motherhood.

Women should not be tortured or punished for wanting to labor and birth in a way that is true to them. They should not be put into an institutionalized box. They should not have to work around standardized intervention and time schedules. As an accomplished horse trainer (specializing in traumatized/abused horses) I understand the process of working with nature and gently guiding – without disrupting the flow with heavy handedness. There is a way of being safe without compromising the sacred journey.

As my ever increasing knowledge about herbs, homeopathy, acupressure, myofascial release, etc. increases, I enjoy growing as a midwife and building a reputation for providing comprehensive, exemplary care.

I am in awe that I have and will continue to walk with women along the path of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. I will forever cherish the clients who have so generously invited me in as their caregiver. I love the special bonds that have developed as I am privileged to watch their families grow.
