More about Asolare Fine Arts Foundation

Asolare Mission Statement

The purpose of the Asolare Fine Arts Foundation is to provide a center for the cultivation of the talents of creative people in the visual, literary, and performing arts. To this end Asolare offers residencies, instruction, exhibition, and mentoring to selected individuals as a 501C3 not-for-profit community service arts organization incorporated in North Carolina.

“Asolare” is a word coined by Pietro Bembo (1470-1547), Italian cardinal and humanist poet, to describe life in the court of Caterina Cornaro, queen of Cyprus, Jerusalem, and Armenia, exiled by the Serenissima to the Italian hill town of Asolo. It means, “to live joyously under the sun.” Versions of this word were also used by Robert Browning in his poetry.

Exhibitions are frequently held at Asolare and open house is held on the second and forth Sundays of each month 2:00-6:00pm. Some of the past exhibitions can be viewed on YouTube at AsolareFineArts.

Asolare is on 52 acres of old growth forest which is effectively an arboretum, providing an excellent location for artists of all kinds to tranquilly focus on their pursuits.

In 1995 The Asolare Fine Arts Academy was incorporated to provide a center for the development and cultivation of the talents of artists and others interested in the arts and humanities, and to maintain a program to encourage and stimulate the development of the arts and humanities.

Asolare is an academy in the context of the ancient academy, which was not primarily a place for formal education or research, but rather a center for inquiring, for dialogue, for the pursuit of intellectual pleasures.

To this end Asolare offers residencies, instruction, exhibition, and mentoring to selected artists as a not-for-profit community service arts organization incorporated in North Carolina.

In 2003 The Asolare Fine Arts Foundation, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization, was formed to support the activities of The Asolare Fine Arts Academy.

“To help, to continually help and share, that is the sum of all knowledge; that is the meaning of art.” Eleonora Duse (1859–1924), Italian actress, resident of Asolo.
