Assumption School is a private, parochial, school in Millbury, Massachusetts, in the United States of America. The school was originally known as "l'Assomption". It was founded in 1925. It was built to serve the French Canadian families of the Our Lady of the Assumption Parish of Millbury.Present dayPresently, the school’s enrollment is approximately 130 students from pre-school to eighth grade, with approximately twenty-five students per class. The school intake comes from Millbury, the Blackstone Valley, Worcester and the surrounding towns. Assumption School is accredited through the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Assumption School was the filming location for a short movie, Salamander, based on the crash of the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986.AcademicsAt the school, all grades to grade three are self-contained. Grades fourth through eighth, however, are departmental. All students have art, music, computer, French and physical education classes. Students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade are involved in the Diocesan Declamation Contest each spring. Assumption School has a middle school science fair bi-annually (5th-8th) and students participate in the Diocesan Science Fair.Daily ScheduleA full day at Assumption School is from 8:30 am to 3pm. Millbury residents can use local school bus transportation, However, families from neighboring towns must provide their own transportation. The school provides an after school care program for students from 3pm to 6pm, for a minimal fee. The school meals are provided through a satellite program from the Millbury Public Schools.
