More about Athens-Limestone Community Association

The Athens-Limestone Community Association aims to inform and engage with the public through cultural, educational, and historical activities that will honor the past and enrich the lives of current and future generations.

ALCA's signature project is the restoration and renovation of the former Trinity High School has been the dream of many people for more than a generation. Founded by the American Missionary Association in 1865, Trinity was the only high school for black students before integration. The school was built on Fort Henderson, an earthen-work fortress built by Union soldiers during the American Civil War. The school closed in 1970 due to a desegregation order. ALCA made Trinity and Fort Henderson it’s mission to preserve one of Athens’ oldest historical landmarks. ALCA is proud to open the Pincham-Lincoln Center at the Trinity-Fort Henderson Complex in December 2015.

ALCA’s next major project at the Trinity – Fort Henderson Complex is the building of the memorial of Fort Henderson, the Union fort where black soldiers fought for their freedom during the American Civil War. More projects will be announced soon!
