Our Mission
The mission of the Church was stated very clearly when Jesus gave these instructions to his followers: And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20
At Atonement, we summarize that “Great Commission” in the following mission statement:
Make Disciples, Grow Disciples.
That’s the first and most important answer to the question “Why are we here?” As followers of Jesus (disciples) ourselves, that’s what we and all Christians are called to do. Make new disciples and help existing disciples grow. And what is a disciple? Pastor Tim has provided one very brief answer that’s helpful;
A disciple of Jesus is
one who is entrusting their entire life into his care,
and investing their entire life into his mission.
