Attic to Basement has been in business for 10 years. Owning and running the shop has been a long-time dream for owner Mary McKendrick. Having run her own business as probate paralegal, she became acquainted with the estate sale business and used goods. At the time when she left her downtown Minneapolis location, she fulfilled her dream when her and her husband, Pat Dwyer, opened a shop and probate office at 56th and Chicago. After two years at that location, they moved to 9060 Lyndale Avenue South in the Great Bear Center in Bloomington. They have recently moved to 8909 Penn Avenue South, also in Bloomington.
The shop is a combination of used goods, antiques, furniture, books, gifts, toys, and oddities. The comment “I had this as a child” is not unusual. Many people say it is a walk down memory lane. New items are added weekly.
The owners are senior citizens. They love to visit with their customers and look forward to their visits. For some people it is a weekly visit - for others it is a time spent waiting for their car to be repaired or for the dog to be groomed. All are welcome.
