Aurora is a town in Beaufort County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 520 at the 2010 Census.GeographyAurora is located at .According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.7km2, of which 2.4km2 is land and 0.3km2, or 9.60%, is water.The large Aurora mine is located just outside the town.DemographicsAs of the census of 2000, there were 583 people, 265 households, and 169 families residing in the town. The population density was 615.8 people per square mile (236.9/km²). There were 316 housing units at an average density of 333.8 per square mile (128.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 51.29% White, 47.51% African American, 0.34% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.37% of the population.There were 265 households out of which 23.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.8% were married couples living together, 15.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 33.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.81.
