Austin Gourmet Popcorn

The idea for Austin Gourmet Popcorn began with the McNeil High School Marching Band, sort of. Scott & Alison Hern's youngest son was a member of the McNeil Maverick Marching Band. As dedicated parents and supporters of the band booster organization, they volunteered to manage and run high school football concession stands, a standard fundraising method for the band.

During many evenings behind the counter, Scott learned how to run the big popcorn machine. He got very good at it. He learned what made a great bag of popcorn and what could ruin it. He became a popcorn connoisseur.

Fast forward a couple of years. Alison & Scott knew they wanted to own their own business after their two sons left home. They tossed around a few different ideas but kept coming back to popcorn. A vision blossomed. Gourmet candy and confections were another fondness they shared. Soon their vision was a reality...on paper.

It took a lot of time, effort and investment to locate a good location for their store, which they named Austin Gourmet Popcorn (like all of us at the shop, they *love* Austin), remodel the inside, buy equipment, stock the store, and do all the 12,746 other things you have to do to open a food business in Austin. Their oldest son, Randy, with a degree from UNT in hospitality management and experience in the food industry, moved from Colorado to help out.

The store opened on Halloween Eve in October, 2015. With a love of vintage soda and root beer, Randy added an ever-growing collection of very unique cold beverages to the offerings.

Today the store offers 70 flavors of gourmet popcorn, all made onsite. We offer almost 100 different types of soda, plus about 300 different kinds of candy.

We can produce custom vinyl labels for organizations or events. We offer gift tins, boxes and buckets in a wide price range. We also offer logo tins with logos from local high schools, a variety of colleges, and several NFL teams.

Customers routinely describe the store as happy and fun, through a mouthful of popcorn, of course.

The store is open seven days a week. We're located in the Anderson Arbor strip shopping mall at the SE corner of Anderson Mill Road and Hwy 183. We're south of Kerbey Lane Cafe and north of the Melting Pot, next door to Double Dave's Pizza.
