Awesome Asana Yoga - Wash Heights

Awesome Asana was founded by Yoga Alliance-certified teacher Chelsea Best in Washington Heights, NYC.

Our mission: to offer affordable, local classes, while contributing to the growth of our neighborhood community; to present local yoga as a possibility, rather than a luxury.

It all began as a karma yoga project in the summer of 2014, offering classes with live music in the gardens of Morris-Jumel Mansion, asking only for love donations to help fund the upkeep of the gardens as a public park and the 250-year-old Victorian home as a museum and learning center.
The weather turned cooler in October and our tribe of outdoor yogis needed somewhere to hibernate for the winter months; that's when Morris-Jumel and Awesome Asana began their partnership. Director Carol Ward graciously adopted the yoga program indoors, offering to host our classes in the historic Octagonal Drawing Room-- once used as George Washington's headquarters during the Battle of Harlem Heights, the first Revolutionary War battle during which the Continental Army was able to force a British retreat.
...So yeah, not only do the floors creak as we flow, but there's some really cool energy to be found inside this old house!


"Making local yoga a possibility rather than a luxury" is the company's mission, and we are proud to say we have been able to keep class fees low at only $5, with free rental mats and discounted same-day admission to the museum for participating yoga students.
