Back Road Shops

Take some time to enjoy the Back Road shops and restaurants. Whether you are on foot, bicycle, golf cart or car, you'll find plenty to explore! Start out by turning onto Back Road off of Highway 12. You can't miss the turn--the Pirate's Chest adorned with its boat full of conch shells is your landmark! Take a few minutes to pop in and find a treasure. On your right you'll find the Back Porch Lunchbox, a perfect spot for grabbing a wrap or cold drink. Don't go too far, you're just beginning! Directly on your left you'll find the Village Diva, a boutique shopping experience. Continue on, just a few steps and you'll find 2 of the island's most loved shops, The Secret Garden Gallery and Bella Fiore Shop--you're sure to find a treat here, be it pottery or jewelry (all locally made of course!). While you're here, find out about getting a massage at Stillwater Spa, located above The Secret Garden, you won't regret it! Just beyond you'll spot The Back Porch Restaurant -- a local landmark. Their menu is delectable, whether you are looking for small plates to share or something larger to eat all yourself! Directly in front of The Back Porch you'll find Graceful Bakery--open each morning serving donuts, cookies, and breakfast treats--also the best place to get fresh squeezed orange juice! Nestles at the corner you'll find the Sunflower Center, another shop not to miss! Just beyond you'll find the newly built Flying Melon Restaurant. While "The Melon" is housed in a new beautifully built location, it is a destination well known to locals and visitors alike. Needing a bit of caffeine to continue on your journey? Pop over to Ocracoke Coffee Co and Island Smoothie. They've been serving folks for over 20 years, once inside you'll appreciate why! Down the street, across from the Ocracoke Health Clinic, you'll find Annabelle's Florist and Antiques. A great spot to find a hidden treasure. Just beside Annabelle's is Mary Bassell's art studio. Jot down her phone number to sign up for her art classes--she offers them all summer long. Further on down the road you'll find Zillie's Island Pantry--the island's only dedicated wine bar and gourmet provisions shop. You can enjoy wine or beer on the front porch while watching the rest of the island bustle by. After your refreshment, continue down Back Road and take a left. Here you'll find the last of our beloved shops--Island Artworks and Over the Moon. Be sure to leave enough time to visit these 2 unique shops; each shop houses many little nooks and crannies to explore.
