The historic Back Swamp Schoolhouse, built in 1921 in Florence, SC, is now being used as a community center and is under the care of the Back Swamp School Trust. Members of the community are working together to restore the building, while making it a functional gathering place and preserving it's unique integrity. The building is maintained by volunteers, with funds raised through rentals and private donations. It is a wonderful venue for live music, art shows, group meetings and meals, receptions, etc. The goals of the Trust are to protect the buidling's original architecture, and to raise the awareness of this beautiful gem of the PeeDee.
