More about BAMA Beltie Farm

Dr. Pat Floyd started in the cattle business with her father many years ago and it led to her falling in love with a breed of cattle from Galloway, Scotland.

Floyd a university educator, professor, and researcher, began researching docile cattle breeds, lean beef, grass-fed, polled cattle, and unique breeds in the Northeastern United States. She found the answer to her quest in the Belted Galloway breed.

Commonly known as "Oreo" cows, they, like the popular cookie, are black at both ends with a big, white stripe or "belt" around the middle.

After Floyd purchased her first two Belted Galloway cattle, her herd quickly increased to seven within a few months. Floyd found she had fallen for this docile breed of bovine. So, after retiring from a long career as an educator and university professor, she limits her herd to twenty five brood Beltie cows located on the BAMA Beltie Farm, in the heart of the "Friendliest City in the South," Luverne, Alabama.

Dr. Floyd said, "This is my retirement. It's what I've always wanted to do, but it's really more of a hobby."
She has sold her calves, not as beef, but to other breeders looking to build a purebred Beltie herd.

Although they are not all that common in Alabama, the Belted Galloway is far from being a novelty pasture ornament and Floyd has made it her passion to see them become an accepted and common beef-producing entity in Alabama and surrounding states.

Belted Galloway Cattle are the new lean beef for people wanting to have everyday healthy eating with exceptional nutritional value. Try the meat, the tasteā€¦it is absolutely wonderful!
