How our Food Cart was Born...
We are John and Julie Robinson and together we own Batter Up. We make waffles and waffle sandwiches and this is our journey so far:

I’ve always loved dreamed of owning a small restaurant. In May of 2012, Julie and I were on a long flight home we saw a show where they were making waffles and that started our wheels turning. We’ve wanted to open a mobile food cart, but were not settled on what to make yet. Why not Waffle sandwiches? This was just the idea we needed to jump start our dream into action.

We dusted the cobwebs off of an old recipe. We call it Baconsausage! A recipe my brother and I came up with years before, where we took a classic sage breakfast sausage and ground bacon directly into it. We worked endless hours and made a lot of sausage before we dialed in the right combination of herbs, spices and bacon. We now have Baconsausage sourced locally, exclusively for us. This has become our signature sandwich; the MVP.

So how did we come up with the name Batter Up? We decided to go with a baseball theme as it brought together two things I am passionate about: Cooking and Baseball. My love of baseball started when I was a kid, growing up in Maine, with my first trip to Fenway Park. I still remember standing by the fence asking Carl Yastrzemski to autograph my mitt! My love for the game and for the Boston Red Sox was born. We’ve had a lot of fun naming our business and our menu items using baseball terms.

In May of 2013 we introduced our full lineup at local farmer’s markets and community events as a hot food stand. We had a blast last summer making new waffle fans and giving them their first taste of baconsausage.

After two seasons of doing farmer’s markets and local events, we decided to take the plunge and open our very own food cart. We chose the Aloha location so we could continue to serve our waffles on the westside, staying loyal to our local waffle fans. We opened the Batter Up Food Cart on October 27th of 2014!!! We hope you enjoy eating our food as much as we like feeding you!
