More about Battle Of Sacramento

In 1995, the first reenactment of this historic event took place in the small community of Sacramento Kentucky at the site of the actual engagement. That first year, only a handful of soldiers and one horse showed up. Community event planners actually had to go out and find a second horse so that there actually could be a battle. Each year after that, the number of reenactors and spectators grew.

On May 20th through the 22nd, nearly 800 reenactors invaded western Kentucky to participate in this year's 17th Annual Battle of Sacramento. Nearly 800 soldiers representing over 80 different regiments traveled from the following states (AL, AR, GA, IL, IN, KY, MO, MS, NH, OH, OR, SC, TN, TX and WI) participated in the 2011 event. There were also numerous civilians and sutlers who also set up camp all three days of the event.

Friday of the event, over 700 students from throughout the region, spent the day visiting the camps and learning how soldiers and civilians lived during the tumultrous days of the Civil War. On Saturday there is roll call, a parade, a ladies tea, a evening ball, mustering and much more including a meal provided by the community for all who partake in the event. It is all such an amazing experience.
