Bayou Florist

My story began some 40 years ago, as I would watch my Mom in the laundry room working on top of our large chest freezer designing arrangements for family and friends. I was always amazed at her talent. Her designs were so beautiful. She and my Dad later opened a shop, Bayou Florist and Gifts, in Houma. She called it “her hobby.” Her hobby quickly became a booming business that lasted over 35 years.
I had gone to work in the oilfield (because that’s what men in Louisiana do) and later I enjoyed 10 years selling insurance. My Mom needed a designer and asked for my help. I jumped right in, with no hesitation. I was surrounded by amazing designers; my Mom, my sister; Susan, Glenn, Ken and Ms. Bonnie. I learned quickly from some of the best! It was easy to see what was needed to succeed in this crazy business; hard work, long hours, good legs and feet, lots of laughter, and a creative mind. My Dad was our outside ambassador. He delivered the creations, visited with everyone he came in contact with, smiled a lot, and fussed a lot about traffic in this town. He showed me how important the “face” of the florist is to the shop. I soaked up all the knowledge I could over that 20 year period, but all good things come to an end…and with the passing of my parents, the shop closed and I was back in the oilfield.
It was a good job, but my dream never faded to open my own shop. Recently, I was approached to do just that. What a blessing! It is with great excitement that I share my passion and love of flowers and design. I want to be your PERSONAL florist!
