Beech Grove Sunday School Union is a celebration held annually on the second Saturday in August. It is a place of gathering for friends and family for food and fellowship. This event was started in 1870 by a Boy's Sunday School in California, KY. By 1880, after 10 years of somewhat unorganized programs generally directed by the Sunday School Superintendents, the organization had its first officers and a state charter. At this point they did not own any property. Records indicated that during the first ten years, the picnic was held at different locations, and is now held at the Beech Grove Celebration Grounds.
