More about Bergen Catholic High School

Bergen Catholic is a private, four year (9-12) college- preparatory high school located in a small suburban community in Bergen County approximately 10 miles from New York City. It is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Its student body numbers 800 boys from 72 different towns in the surrounding area. Enrollment is selective and based on a High School Entrance Examination, academic record, and grammar school principal's recommendation.

Bergen Catholic High School opened on September 11, 1955 with an enrollment of 114 freshmen. Classes were held at Our Lady of Visitation School, Paramus, while construction was being completed on the new building which occupies twelve acres of land on the corner of Oradell and Forest Avenues in Oradell, New Jersey. An addition was built onto the school in the early 1960s and a new and larger library was added in 1984. In 1989 a special weight training facility was erected. The school building also houses a student chapel, science laboratories, cafeteria, computer science laboratory, and gymnasium. An athletic field and parking area are included on the property.

Brother Eugene D. McKenna was appointed the first principal. The students selected Crusaders to be the school symbol and that scarlet and gold should be the school colors. With the symbol Crusaders it was thought that an appropriate school motto should be Deus Vult - God Wills It!
