Sandra Chicoine, M.Ed, is a professional educator who uses her experience teaching people to train their dogs in ways that help dog owners to develop positive, loving relationships with their canine companions. Helping her students understand how dogs learn aids them in communicating with their pets in ways that are productive. Taking a class from Sandra will teach you that having patience, a positive attitude, and consistency with your pet will help create a learning environment where you and your dog can live a lifetime together as best friends.

Sandra is a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers whose mission is to promote caring relationships between dogs and people by educating people in canine behavior and emphasizing professionalism and reward-based training. Sandra believes in the APDT vision that all dogs are effectively trained through dog-friendly techniques and therefore are lifelong companions in a relationship based on mutual trust and respect.

Sandra works part time as a dog trainer, studies dog behavior and learning, and practices her training on her own dogs, on dogs at private residences and classes in the community, as well the dogs at Homeward Bound Animal Shelter in Middlebury, Vermont. Just this past year she launched a training program at the shelter to train volunteers to teach dog’s basic obedience. Sandra attributes her training enthusiasm to seeing positive changes in dogs that can affect the rest of their and their human’s lives.


Training Offered:
Sandra is a part-time dog trainer who is available for in-home consultations and training. Community classes are also an option.
Basic Training aims to provide all the building blocks a dog of any age needs to get a foundation of basic training. Most dogs were breed to hunt and solve problems and need both exercise and mental stimulation to be fulfilled. If you have an older dog, don’t overlook the opportunity to train and provide mental stimulation for your dog.

Puppy kindergarten is an excellent introduction to basic cues, manners, and socialization that will create a foundation of learning and will strengthen the communication and relationship between your new puppy. This class coach’s pet parents though their first months with a puppy.

Behavior Problems: Many undesirable behaviors can be modified, changed, or managed. Although there is no guarantee Sandra can help you determine a plan of training to deal with many problem behaviors.
