Big Dog's on the River

Hailed as one of the best, if not THE best way to enjoy the outdoors in Athens, Georgia. The process is simple:
(1)Park
(2)Pay & sign waver
(3)Pick out a life jacket
(4)Take the next hourly shuttle upstream
(5)Pick out a kayak and paddle at the put-in
(6)Enjoy the float back to Big Dog's and your car!

The trip is 3.5 miles long and takes most folks about 2 hours to complete with light, intermittent paddling. There is a rocky section about midway down the float that can create some fun white water or obstacles depending on the water level that day.

It's important to stay hydrated so feel free to bring fluids in your own personal cooler. Located behind the seat of each kayak is an open top shallow storage well with bungee straps that can hold a small or medium sized cooler. The bungees covering the well can also be used to store dry bags or boxes, but it is recommended that you bring a carabiner or some rope to tie your items to the kayak for extra security.

We do not allow styrofoam or glass so please keep that in mind when choosing coolers and drinks to bring.
