Big Head's Bait Shop

You could have asked me when I was still just a little nugget what I was going to be when I grew up and I’d say “I’m gonna have a bait shop so I can talk to fishermen all day and work on the water”. My plan back then was to do this by the time I was 40. I guess I felt like I was giving myself plenty of time. Later in life I thought about how unrealistic it was for me to think I could do it by 40. It made me laugh thinking of little me saying that. Forty rolled by. No bait shop. I was at peace with it. I had a great job that I’d been going to Monday through Friday for 17 or so years. I was working with a few of the greatest guys put on this earth and not one day went by that I ever dreaded going to work. This job was a blessing.
Less than a year ago, Scott and I were going fishing and we stopped by the Canoe Creek Bait Shop. I told him about how that place had been tugging on my heart strings for years and how I was planning to “off” the guy that had it, so I could take over. I’m kidding. Making sure you’re paying attention. Anyway, I told him about my ideas and he looked at me like he always does; the look that lets me know he believes in me. *tearbreak*

Ok….I’m back. Here it was, less than a year later and I notice that the place was empty. I asked around first to make sure that the fella that had it before me was ok. He was always so nice to me and Scott. He was ok, just didn’t want to do it anymore. Long story-kind of short; I started asking around, decided to do it, got cold feet a couple weeks later and almost just gave up on my dream. I put on some really warm socks and told Scott that I wanted to do it. It happened really fast but I was signing papers on my 44th birthday, so I got very close to the goal I set as a silly little girl.

So that’s the story, almost. Boss AKA – Big Head. Most of you know the story of Big. He rescued me a few years back, so I figured he’s earned a spot on back deck where he can bask in the sunlight for the rest of his days.
