Bill Lyon Portraits

For almost 20 years I have traveled across America working with families and artists in capturing their loved ones in oil portraits. Looking back over the years, remembering the many hours spent in my work and thinking of the wonderful friends I have made brings much joy to my heart. There is nothing like seeing a mother’s and father’s tears of joy when the heirloom portrait of their child or loved one is presented.

Portraits of family members are cherished in our family. My grandfather was larger than life to me while growing up. Many years have passed since his death in 1965 and I can look at his portrait above my desk and still smell his cigar. Our grandchildren have had their portraits done at age three and it is amazing how much they look like their parents’ portraits painted at the same age. There are so many wonderful memories that oil portraits give to families who choose to have them painted.

If your family will allow me to guide you during the portrait process, I promise to be with you from start to finish. There will be an initial phone call and visit, a trip to your home to show portrait samples of each artist’s work and guidance with clothing, posing, background, sizing, and framing. I will be there for the photography session, guide you in proof selection, work closely with the artist and deliver the finished portrait to your family. It is a process that produces more than works of art – it creates lasting friendships as well.
