I'm Paula the big boss lady and the head Smart As. It started in the late 80's when I was looking in a thrift store for ideas for a Halloween costume. I found a fabulous empire waist and bell sleeve pink voile and white lace 1970's formal that was transformed into a genie costume! The thrill of the hunt for finding a cool Halloween costume then transformed itself into my later vocation of costume design! I graduated with my Masters in Costume Design from Carnegie Mellon University where I catalogued and photographed their historic costume collection for my work hours. I have always had a love for vintage and retro fashions and was thrilled to be working with them every week.The time spent working with vintage garments in the theatre helps me to identify and date items I find. I also come from a long line of seamstresses so I can identify older sewing notions, older sewing techniques and finishes used in creating these garments.
