The current Blocksburg Town Hall Association was formed November 30, 1956, when 40 industrious and interested persons decided to buy the abandoned schoolhouse for a local meeting place. During the next two years, the old building was remodeled to accommodate its new use. (Older photographs of Blocksburg show a town hall building situated prominently on the main street, indicating it was a renewal of an old idea.)

Records from the Town Hall reveal a history of a tight-knit community holding Christmas parties, pot-luck dinners, square dances, card parties, crab feeds, turkey shoots, going-away parties, bridal showers, wedding receptions, meetings, and funeral gatherings. These records are a treasure of information about the towns’ citizens.

In 1966, the Association bought the town’s deteriorating church, and began a 20-year restoration project. Many, many fundraisers–including a cookbook created from the recipe files of the town’s best cooks–helped finance the project. Community members donated most of the labor to restore the church.

Today the Town Hall Assosiation oversees the annual cemetery clean-up in the spring, the July ice cream picnic, harvest faire, Christmas party, and crab feed. The Town Hall building and Blocksburg Church are available for community and private events.
