Blue Heron Pottery

Showing the “clothiness” of clay is how I like to describe my unique line of stoneware pottery. Everything starts as a flat slab of clay. From there I cut out a basic pattern (simple rectangle for mugs, cups, and teapots, more complicated shapes for pitchers, butter dishes, etc) and impress each piece with lace texture. I have some laces that were my grandmother’s that I have used for over 40 years and many have been given to me by friends who just wanted their old lace to be used for something. Some are textures from material designed for bridal gowns or formal dresses that I find in our local fabric shop. I do commissioned work* with family laces for I love the preserving of designs—some of which were made by that special grandma—that can be spread around a family.
